Cybersecurity Programs in New York

Note for International Students: This is a STEM program
For international students, a STEM-designated program allows extended opportunities in STEM-eligible roles at organizations. Students can extend their Optional Practical Training (OPT) by 24 months, for a total of three years without H1B employment visa sponsorship.

Offered jointly by the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, Hofstra University's graduate programs in Cybersecurity prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed in technology, management, and policy. Our MBA and MS programs provide the theoretical foundation and practical experiences that address cybersecurity from many perspectives such as data, software, systems, organizational and societal security, and privacy. Gain valuable hands-on experience through paid positions offered as part of our co-op program and study in state-of-the-art on-campus facilities, such as the Cybersecurity Innovation and Research Center. Scholarships are available for qualified candidates. Please note, the GRE is not required for admission.

To be considered for the MS in Cybersecurity with a concentration in Technology within the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science, you must have completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. The following prerequisites are required with grades of B or better, though conditional admission may be offered: programming and calculus.

  • Transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities. You may initially submit unofficial copies of your transcripts online for your application review, but official transcripts will be required once you are accepted into the program.
  • GRE or GMAT scores (optional)

To be considered for the MS in Cybersecurity with a concentration in Management and Policy and MBA in Cybersecurity Management and Policy programs within the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, you must have a bachelor’s degree. Based on your academic and professional background, you may qualify for a GMAT waiver.

  • Transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities. You may initially submit unofficial copies of your transcripts for your application review, but official transcripts will be required once you are accepted into the program.
  • GMAT score (School Code: 2295). If you have not taken a GRE or GMAT, you are welcome to submit your application without test scores for feedback on your materials and eligibility for a waiver. (optional)
  • Current résumé.
  • Two letters of recommendation (optional).
  • Personal statement (optional). Indicate why you want to obtain this degree and why you would be successful in the program.

Faculty Profiles

Gerda L. Kamberova

Dr. Gerda Kamberova's research interests include computer vision, multi-sensor fusion, and decision making under uncertainty. Her work on the development of methods for reconstructing 3D scenes and shapes of objects from digital images and in quantifying the geometry of 3D point sets was funded by a National Science Foundation grant and a research grant from Google.

MEET DR. KAMBEROVA

Hak J. Kim

Dr. Kim's research includes mobile location-based services with mobile app, big data analytics in social media, cyber security in cloud computing, and digital forensics. He is currently building the real-time location tracking and positioning system using wireless networking and mobile apps. Another project is to build the big data analytic system as a business intelligent system to support better decision-making.

Gurvirender Tejay

Dr. Gurvirender Tejay is a seasoned expert in cybersecurity and digital privacy. His work in cybersecurity spans insider threat detection, security governance, policy compliance, and secure system development. Dr. Tejay has secured over $12 million in grants, including funding from the U.S. National Security Agency, to support cybersecurity education and workforce development. Dr. Tejay currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief for Organizational Cybersecurity Journal: Practice, Process and People with Emerald Publishing. He also chairs the IEEE Digital Privacy Initiative’s Education and Training committee, where he co-developed one of the first course sequences on “Digital Privacy: Principles, Regulations, and Ethics” for engineers.

Uzo N. Osuno

As a graduate program director and adjunct associate professor, Professor Osuno is a leader in Data Science, Analytics, Cybersecurity, Vendor relations offering versatile strengths, and a record of over fifteen years work experience. Professor Osuno has had success In the Petroleum, Finance, and Healthcare industries, on three continents, both as a consultant and as a full-time employee. Creating systems designed to guide decision making and corporate strategy is their forte.
